Job Summary

Meyer Utility Structures is currently hiring for a Sr. Spun Concrete Pole Design Engineer to work for our Concrete Utility Structure operations in the Southeastern U.S. The Sr. Design Engineer is a very strategic individual contributor to the organization and recognized as an engineering expert with technical decision-making authority. The Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for maintaining and enhancing all product design standards and has the ability to influence the organization and the industry on technical matters.


Meyer Utility Structures, an Arcosa subsidiary, is an industry leader in the engineering design and fabrication of concrete, lattice, and tubular steel structures for transmission, distribution, and substation applications. With over sixty years of innovative engineering and manufacturing expertise, Meyer has helped to author and validate many of todays transmission industry standards and specifications.


What you'll do:


  • Develop new and/or upgrade existing technical documentation and standards such as; the engineering design manual, test information, design tools/spreadsheets and engineering references

  • Work with the sales, engineering and manufacturing teams to support the development of new product designs and enhance existing product designs

  • Function as a project leader and perform design reviews on highly complex projects. Support sales, engineering and manufacturing as needed to resolve technical issues

  • Develop full scale structure test plans and documents to validate new products and designs. Coordinate structure test set up and supervise all structure tests including data gathering and measurements, preparing final reports and documentation

  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating material specifications

  • Work within the organization to develop and maintain a comprehensive training program for new and experienced engineers with regards to all technical aspects of product such as design and analysis methods, materials and technical marketing information

  • Prepare information and perform individual, department, customer or conference technical papers and presentations

  • Assist with the development and enhancement of spun concrete pole design software

  • Assist with the quoting of the spun concrete pole operations

  • Assist with the expansion of spun concrete pole operations

  • Participate on industry committees as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering

What you'll need:


  • BS or Masters degree in civil / structural engineering

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) passing is required with the ability to obtain a PE within two years from date of hire

  • Minimum 5 years experience in utility pole design; concrete pole design experience strongly preferred

  • Pole design software knowledge (PLS preferred)

  • PE license preferred

  • Project management and presentation skills

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team
